That very afternoon, Nai Thong-in and I were sitting together on the veranda.

“Do you remember what we argued about?”

I listened the whole time, then asked,

One day, a few months ago, I was sitting and talking with Mr. Thong-in at his house.
นายทองอินรับไปจากข้าพเจ้าตรวจดูอยู่ครู่หนึ่ง แล้วถามขึ้นว่า
Mr. Thong-in took it from me and looked it over for a moment, then asked,
ข้าพเจ้า “ส่วนตัวแกเองน่ะ เห็นด้วยตามความคิดนายเปรมหรือ”
“Personally, do you agree with Prem’s thinking?”
แต่ม้าที่น้องข้าพเจ้าเจาะจงขอนั้นเป็นม้าดี
But the horse my younger sibling specifically asked for is a good one.

I began to feel annoyed with Mr. Thong-in, who seemed so complacent and not at all enthusiastic.
คนในศาลแทบทุกคนก็แลดูข้าพเจ้ากับนายสวัสดิ์ซึ่งนั่งใกล้ข้าพเจ้านั้น
Almost everyone in the courtroom looked at me and Mr. Sawat, who was sitting next to me.

At that time, Thong-in and I were hiding.

“Why would he bring it here? I already told him to come straight here because my older brother is in such a hurry.”

Suddenly, I heard a low groaning sound from the other side of the ditch.
ข้าพเจ้าลุกออกไปเห็นพลตระเวนที่รักษาประตูกำลังเถียงกับคนเมาแลผลักไสอยู่
I got up and went out, and saw the sentry guarding the gate arguing with a drunk and shoving him away.

But I still couldn’t guess what you wanted at the time.

Thon-in laughed again and asked me, “Well, what do you think?”
เพราะฉะนั้นเวลานั้นข้าพเจ้าเช่าบ้านอยู่ด้วยกันกับนายทองอิน
So at that time, I was renting a house with Mr. Thong-in.
ส่วนตัวนายสวัสดิ์เองก็เลยเป็นคนชอบพอกับข้าพเจ้าและนายทองอินมาจนทุกวันนี้
As for Mr. Sawat himself, he became a close friend of mine and Mr. Thong-in, and has remained so to this day.

Thong-in looked at me as if to say, “Well, what did I tell you?”

I observed Mr. Thong-in’s face and saw that he was deep in thought about his work.
