a mí

to me

→ a
phrase Extremely common #276
to me Where English just stresses the word "I" or "me" with your voice for emphasis, Spanish adds the phrase a mí (literally "to me") to the sentence. You will most often hear it right before a word that already means "me" to highlight your own feelings or contrast yourself with someone else. For example, while Me gusta el café simply means "I like coffee," A mí me gusta el café means "I like coffee" (as in, "As for me, I like coffee"). Note that mí here always has an accent mark to tell it apart from mi, which means "my."
SP: A mí me gusta el café.
EN: I like coffee.
