んだよ

you know

→ の
phrase Extremely common #70
you know While English often uses tone of voice or phrases like "the thing is" to stress a point, Japanese attaches small endings to the sentence instead. Adding んだよ (n da yo) to the end of a casual statement shows that you are explaining a reason or filling the listener in on something important they might not realize. 忙しい (isogashii) simply means "I'm busy," while 忙しいんだよ (isogashii n da yo) means "The thing is, I'm busy, you know"—such as when explaining why you can't hang out.
JA: これは大事なんだよ。
EN: This is important, you know.
