to think that Used to introduce what someone thinks, believes, or assumes. In English, "that" is often omitted. As a dictionary form, the expression appears as the infinitive pensare che; in actual speech it is often conjugated (for example, penso che, pensi che). After pensare che, Italian may use either the indicative or the subjunctive depending on nuance and register.

IT: È difficile pensare che lui dica la verità.

EN: It is difficult to think that he is telling the truth.
