« je pensais que tu… / nous pensions que tu… / ils pensaient que tu… » (supposition, croyance dans le passé). S’emploie quand on dit ce que quelqu’un croyait à un moment dans le passé. Souvent suivi d’une proposition (« thought you could… », « thought you said… », « thought you had… »). Peut servir à corriger un malentendu (« I thought you said… ») ou à expliquer pourquoi on dit/fait quelque chose (« Just thought you should know. »).
